Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
