Israeli citizens and Palestinians Rejoice as Truce Offers Hope of Period of Peace

A rare moment of joy took place within Israeli communities and Palestinian groups this past Monday as the militant group freed the last 20 living hostages in Gaza as a component of a exchange agreement for nearly two thousand Palestinian detainees. This took place on a day when world leaders gathered in Egypt to attempt to ensure that the ongoing temporary truce is prolonged into a lasting peace.

Egypt’s Leader Appeals for Ceasefire to Usher in New Era

Throughout the day of the weekday, a large crowd massed in the southern Gazan city of Khan Yunis to celebrate the return of nearly 1,700 Palestinians imprisoned during the period of the conflict, while in the West Bank region main city of Ramallah residents greeted the arrival of eighty-eight Palestinian prisoners who had been undergoing lengthy prison terms handed down by Israeli judicial bodies. The previous Gaza ceasefire collapsed after two months in March when Israeli forces resumed its military operations.
