Music Legend Barry Manilow Will Have Surgery for Lung Cancer.

Barry Manilow has revealed that he received a diagnosis with lung cancer and will undergo an operation.

Cancer Caught Early

The 82-year-old singer, known for a string of beloved anthems from "Mandy" has made him one of pop music’s cherished entertainers, will have surgery to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to treat the disease, which is in its early stages.

ā€œAs my fans are aware, I recently endured six weeks of a bronchial infection followed by a recurrence of another five weeks.

ā€œEven though I was past the infection and back on stage in Las Vegas, my excellent physician insisted on an MRI just to ensure that everything was OK.

ā€œThe MRI discovered a tumor on my left side that must be removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a great doctor) that it was caught so early.ā€

Rescheduled Shows

He has rescheduled a string of upcoming shows, but suggested he would be back on stage by Valentine’s Day for his longstanding residency at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.

He added: ā€œThe doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m having examinations to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. Chemo is not needed. No radiation. Just home remedies and favorite shows.

ā€œI’m looking forward to until I come back to my second home in Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.ā€

A Long Career and Personal Life

Manilow is now in the 16th year of a show at the Westgate Las Vegas. The singer has enjoyed a career spanning many years in the spotlight and revealed he is gay in 2017, after wedding his partner of many years, Garry Kief privately in 2014.

The couple were in a clandestine partnership for in excess of 35 years. In 2023, Manilow reflected on how important his partner had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

ā€œAs my career exploded, it was just hectic. And, you know, going back to an lonesome hotel suite, you can get into a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re alone repeatedly,ā€ he said.

ā€œBut I encountered my future husband right around when it was exploding. And I no longer had to go back to those lonesome rooms. I had a partner to be vulnerable with or to celebrate with.

ā€œI wish that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you might succumb to pitfalls. I never did. But it was very solitary until I met Garry. And then it was fun.ā€
