Paceman Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Problems.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the playing area during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.

The England team reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time away from the action in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series at the SCG gets underway at the end of the week.

England have been without strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted of the third Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 with the bat being one of only three England players to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he returned on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of his spell, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler was recalled for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
