The American champion Optimistic of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in her last five World Cup races.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," the skier commented. "After that, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a 69-point lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
