The co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated that parent company Unilever blocked the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that established the business alongside his partner, announced how he plans to independently develop the controversial flavor within an individual collection highlighting causes the company has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest announcement intensifies the continuing conflict between the world-famous ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British consumer goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders maintain how Unilever along with their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented their company from "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Flavor as a Symbol of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated through social media how he is creating a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its colors, which match the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Changes

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

The new product line is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand which was first established several years back to support ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts and Upcoming Intentions

Mr. Cohen stated how he will develop additional frozen dessert varieties focusing on issues which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company recently, following decades with the organization, citing worries that the company's autonomy had been undermined following Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen remarked that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence so that the company can actualise the social mission, the principles which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
