The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
